Puttaparthi gears up for Saibaba’s birthday

All arrangements in full swing

ANANTAPUR: District Collector N. Sridhar has asked all the district officers concerned to supervise the arrangements for 82nd birthday celebrations of Sathya Saibaba in Puttaparthi personally. He also asked them to stay in the spiritual town from November 21 to 23 for personal monitoring.

In a review meeting held here on Saturday with all the departments concerned, he asked the officers to see that no inconvenience was caused to the devotees and provide all basic amenities. He told them to concentrate on roads, street lights, drinking water, temporary toilets, sanitation, beautification, parking of vehicles, transportation, medical facilities and security arrangements.

Infrastructure

Asked about the progress of road-widening from Mamillakunta Cross to Ganesh Gate in Puttaparthi, SE of Roads & Buildings Ramkishen Rao said, three of the four-lane road would be completed by November 19 and the remaining part would be completed after the birthday. Panchayati Raj by-pass road was also completed upto the Chitravathi river.

Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra stated that they had identified five parking lots. District Medical & Health Officer N. Balaramaiah said, two base hospitals would be run round-the-clock from November 18 to 23 besides six stationary medical camps and two mobile medical camps. Six ambulances would also be kept ready to meet any emergency situation. Officials of the APSRTC explained that 210 extra buses were being run from different parts of the State for the birthday celebrations. Transco SE D.R.K. Prasad said two generators were kept ready to ensure uninterrupted power supply in Puttaparthy.
