50 stalls for organic products Visitors show interest in such products BANGALORE: Organic products have come full circle. Organic, once the only known way to go, has been rediscovered and lauded worldwide for its commonsense techniques. And organic products are at an all-time premium now, chosen over their chemical-ridden counterparts. There is no better evidence of this phenomenon than at the Krishimela this year at the University of Agricultural Sciences, where 50 stalls have been dedicated exclusively to organically farmed products. “Visitors to the Krishimela seem to show a special interest in the organic stalls,” says G. Eswarappa, Director of Extension, UAS. And not surprisingly so, for the stalls have on offer food, fertilizers and even pesticides, all without chemicals. Fruit, vegetables and cereals grown organically without harmful pesticides and by-products such as fruit juices, fruit solids and maize-based products are bound to interest the health-conscious visitor. And for those of you who take pride in your garden or vegetable patch, there are non-toxic solutions to pests, bugs and aphids. Non-polluting neem-based pesticides are available at the mela. And organic fertilizers, including vermicompost, enriched farmyard manure and bio-fertilizers will fix nitrogen in soil without an ecological cost.
