Thousands take part in peace march

Keeping the memory alive: School and college students participating in a memorial meeting to condole the gruesome murder of Guru Srinu in Tirupati on Saturday.

TIRUPATI: Thousands of students from all schools and colleges besides denizens belonging to a cross section of people Tirupati on Saturday took part in the peace march to condole the death of eight-year-old 3rd standard student Guru Srinu, who was kidnapped and brutally killed by a five-member gang.

The voluntary and massive turnout was unprecedented and reflected the contempt of people for the ruthless killers.

Students sporting their school uniforms silently marched through the streets holding placards and banners with heart-rending slogans like: “What wrong have we done,” and “God! save us from cruel killers around.”

There were also banners which demanded ‘capital punishment’ to the killers of Srinu. Some were seen carrying the portraits of the ill-fated boy.

A few of portraits were displayed on the electric poles along the route.

The silent rally of more than a kilometre-long was orderly and did not affect the traffic much though it was taken out at a peak hour in the morning.

Besides parents, teachers from all the schools and colleges, including nursing students, took part in the peace march which culminated at the TUDA grounds where prominent people of the town like the TTD Board Chairman, B. Karunakar Reddy, Executive Officer K.V. Ramanachary, Tirupati legislator M. Venkatramana, Chairman of the TUDA Ch. Bhaskar Reddy and others expressed shock over the diabolic act of the abductors.

They paid tributes to the boy whose life was snuffed out for no fault of his.

The boy’s father, Gurunadham, and other relatives, who were also present at the meet, were seen sobbing uncontrollably.
