KOCHI: Doha Bank Chief Executive Officer R. Seetharaman has said the power of the global marketplace should be used to address global warming. There should be a combination of ecological balance and economics, he said. This innovative business model has attracted a great deal of support as geopolitical, environmental and socio-economic realities have made sustainable industrial production a permanent global issue. Mr. Seetharaman was speaking at a seminar on ‘global warming and climatic Change — perspective on Corporate and Social responsibility.’ The need to develop environmentally-sustainable businesses models is becoming stronger, so that the globe remains a healthy place to live. ‘Environment protection for sustainable development’ is one of the eight ‘Millennium Development Goals’ ratified by United Nations, needing global attention, he said. Doha Bank is leading an initiative by conducting a series of seminars across the world to deliberate on the corporate, social and economic perspective of the issue, he said. He urged the corporate sector to invest more vigorously in projects for renewable energy, waste management, sustainable forestry, clean technology and energy efficiency. There is a need to align internal organisational practices, in a responsible manner, with the environmental cause. Environment management and environment audit should become an integral part of all organisations. Corporate relationship should be encouraged only with those organisations which comply with environment management principles, he said.
