VIJAYAWADA: A weeklong special drive will be taken up in the city from November 19 to penalise erring drivers of autorickshaws, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) T. Prabhakar Babu said in a statement on Saturday. that the police had conducted 27 special drives so far to make people follow the road rules. The special drive in respect of auto-rickshaws was aimed at preventing the three-wheelers registered in neighbouring districts from entering the city and to verify the records of drivers and vehicles moving within the city limits. Mr. Prabhakar Babu made it clear that only those auto-rickshaws for which the police had given permission and special identification numbers could move in the city, and no outside vehicle could ferry local commuters. He said that in addition to vehicles from other places, seven-seat auto-rickshaws were also creating havoc on city roads. Such vehicles should obtain permissions from the transport authorities and the police.
