Vijayawada
She recently met party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu She was the youngest person to be elected directly VIJAYAWADA: With just a week left for the ‘Rythu Garjana’ being organised by the TDP in the city on November 24, local party leaders who have gone into a state of hibernation after the last Assembly elections have slowly started making public appearance. Former Mayor Panchumarti Anuradha, who the party activists thought had quit active politics, surprised every one by recently meeting party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad and getting his blessings for once again participating in the party affairs actively. ‘More active part’He reportedly asked her to take a “more active part” in party affairs and work for the success of ‘Rythu Garjana’. On her return to the city, she met party urban district president Gadde Ramamohan after nearly two years. “I will work for the success of ‘Rythu Garjana’ and highlight the failure of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation in providing basic amenities to the poor,” she said on Saturday. Ms. Anuradha has the distinction of being the youngest person to be elected directly by people to the post of Mayor. Her achievement was recorded in the Limca Book of Records. Though she lacked the support of many of her party corporators, she managed to initiate some developmental activities during her term. Her popularity took a beating when she threw her weight behind the officials’ decision to widen Bandar (Mahatma Gandhi) Road, Eluru Road, BRP Road, G.S. Raju Road and other arterial roads. She became the target of people’s ire following the eviction of several families from the bunds of the three canals.
