Reforms have changed the face of Hyderabad, says TDP chief

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed happiness that reforms have caught up with people now though they were considered a threat to vote bank when he initiated them as Chief Minister 12 years ago.

“I am happy that everyone talks about reforms and technology now. I was warned 12 years ago that you will lose votes if you talk about reforms,” Mr. Naidu said at the inauguration of the International Clinical Oncology Congress organised by the Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Centre (IACIRC) here. Mr. Naidu also said reforms had changed the face of Hyderabad.

They helped in the growth of infrastructure and IT in the city.

He regretted that the best of infrastructure developed for the new premises of Gandhi Hospital in the city was not put to good use.

The performance of the hospital turned poor after the Telugu Desam lost power, he added.

Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, former Minister and Chairman of IACIRC, said the IACIRC had made rapid strides in treatment of cancer patients. It developed laparoscopic surgical oncology recently.

The hospital also possessed modern equipment and drugs. Kakarla Subba Rao, Member, Board of Trustees of the hospital, said the day was not far off when oncologists of the country could compete with their foreign counterparts.

Nori Dattatreyudu, Chief Scientific Advisor of IACIRC, said bone marrow transplant was started at the hospital recently for the first time in State. Tulasi Polavarapu, president of IACIRC, New York, spoke.
