‘Eulogising LTTE will hurt Congress sentiments’
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The All-India Congress Committee (AICC) on Saturday adopted a resolution that expressed concern over Sri Lanka’s inability to arrive at an internal constitutional settlement acceptable to all communities.
The four-line mention of Sri Lanka in the omnibus resolution adopted at the session here was part of a long reference to the political situation in India’s neighbourhood.
“The AICC notes with concern that peace and an internal constitutional settlement acceptable to all communities within the framework of a united Sri Lanka has still not been achieved,” the resolution said.
Asserting that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government’s efforts towards this end should continue, the resolution said: “The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE), categorised internationally as a terrorist outfit, deliberately assassinated our beloved leader in a brutal manner.” Also, without naming any party, the resolution said praise of the LTTE was bound to hurt the sentiments of the Congress workers.
