Nandigram: CBI to start investigation after getting High Court order
Kolkata: The CBI will continue its investigation into the March 14 police firing and violence at Nandigram which left 14 dead, after it receives a copy of the Calcutta High Court order.
“We have not received the court order yet. Once we have the order, we will continue the investigation,” Special Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Sundar Rajan said here on Saturday.
The CBI had taken up the case first time after the High Court on March 15 had ordered it to investigate.
The agency, after nine days of investigation, arrested 10 CPI(M) supporters from a brick kiln and allegedly seized arms from them. Following this, it had submitted a report to the court, with the hearing concluding in July. Those arrested, by the CBI, who were handed over to the CID, were let off for lack of evidence.
The High Court had on Friday directed the CBI to continue the probe.
“Unconstitutional”
It described the March 14 police firing as “unconstitutional and not justifiable” and directed the agency to submit its report within a month.
Mr. Rajan also said that Tapan Ghosh and Sukur Ali, the two accused in the Chota Angaria massacre of 2001, would be taken into CBI custody once they were produced in the Contai court on November 21. — PTI
