Robbery victim needs 14 stitches Crime notes

BANGALORE: A three-member gang knifed a private bus driver and robbed him of Rs. 500 and a mobile phone in Kadugondanahalli police station limits on Friday night.

The police said that around 11.30 p.m., three men waylaid Syed Afiqullah near the railway tracks in Gandhinagar while he was returning home from work. They slashed his face with a knife and took away the cellphone and cash.

A severely injured Syed was rushed to a hospital where he had 14 stitches on his face, the police said. On a complaint by Syed, who works with a private transport company in Kalasipalya, the Kadugondanahalli police have registered a case.

Burgled

Burglars struck at a hardware shop on Kilari Road in Chickpet police station limits on Friday night and made away with Rs. 70,000.

The police said the thieves, who entered the shop by breaking open the rolling shutters, looted the money from two cash boxes. However, Rs. 1.75 lakh that was in another box was found intact.

Suicides

Following alleged harassment by her husband for more dowry, Chikkamma (28) committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her house at Lottegollahalli in Sanjaynagar police station limits on Friday.

After a spat with her husband, Doddaiah, she doused herself with kerosene and immolated herself. Chikkamma’s neighbours doused the fire and rushed her to Victoria Hospital where she was declared brought dead, the police said. In another incident, a security guard committed suicide by hanging himself at his room in Jagadishnagar in HAL police station limits on Friday night.

The police gave his name as Solaroinam (27), a native of Manipur.
