Health screening conducted in jail
Staff Reporter
ARANTHANGI: It was a rare opportunity for the inmates of the sub-jail in Aranthangi in Pudukottai district the other day, when they were screened under a special health camp programme, forming part of the ‘Varumun kappom’ programme of the Health Department.
In all, 22 inmates were screened by S. Karunakaran, Chief Medical Officer, Government Hospital, Aranthangi, and Siddha specialist Vijaya Ragunathan.
Inaugurating the camp, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, B. M. Ezra, emphasised the efficacy of preventive measures against diseases. He appealed to the inmates to shun their inhibitions in seeking any health-related counselling from the doctors.
The prime objective of the camp, Mr. Ezra said was to create an awareness among the inmates about the significance of health-care measures so that they could maintain good health throughout their life, even beyond their release from the prison.
Dr. Karunakaran and Dr. Vijaya Ragunathan explained the early symptoms of certain diseases and preventive measures.
Apart from the inmates, ten staff attached to the sub-jail were also screened on the occasion.
Sub-Jail Superintendent Murugesan was among those who spoke.
