Ministers absent at railway function

VRIDDHACHALAM: Vriddhachalam MLA Vijayakant was conspicuous by his absence at the inauguration of Vriddhachalam—Salem passenger train services here on Sunday.
Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani said it was a historic moment that the train services had been inaugurated on the newly converted gauge section .
E.V.K.S. Elangovan, Union Minister of State for Textiles, K. Venkatapathy, Union Minister of State for Law, K.N. Nehru, Transport Minister, and M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Health Minister, and K.V.Thangka Balu, MP, were supposed to participate in the event. But none of them could attend the function.
The DMK Ministers could not participate as the party was mourning Tiruvarur district secretary Poondi K. Kalaichelvam.
Mr. Elangovan could not catch a flight because the All India Congress Committee session at Delhi had ended late at night.
Congress leaders could not make it as they had to attend a marriage at the house of Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer.
