Against a social evil: Students and employees of Titan Industries Limited taking part in a rally highlighting the ill effects of child labour at Hosur on Sunday.

Hosur: For the fourth consecutive year, Titan Industries Limited, Hosur organised a rally to create awareness among employers about eradication of child labour.

More than 1,800 Titanians and schoolstudents took part in the run which started from the Titans jewellery factory grounds at 7.40 a.m. and concluded at the watch factory covering a distance of 8.5 kms. Sub-Collector Hosur Nagarajan flagged off the rally. The students carried placards against child labour and stressed the need to provide compulsory education for the children. They also distributed pamphlets to sensitise the general public and callous employees who employ children.

Sources in TIL point out that the rally would exert some pressure and influence on the parents and employers to change their thinking and behaviour. Titan industries has always been committed to community involvement. Since its inception the Titan run has been associated with a social raison-d-etre. This year the run was organized for childhood.

Managing Director Titan Industries Limited Baskar Bhatt donated a sum of Rs.10 lakh to National Child Labour Prevention Programme and organizations, which work for child labour projects. This amount would be used to provide the muchneeded resources and infrastructure for giving education to deserving children. This endeavour is part of Titan Industries on-going initiatives to serve the community. N. Kailasanathan Vice-president Corporate communications was present.
