Night shopping as part of fete

KOTTAYAM: The district administration will introduce night shopping in the town on an experimental basis during the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival scheduled to be held from December 1 this year to January 15, 2008.

Night shopping will be allowed for five days from December 27. The stretch of Kottayam - Kumily road which runs through the town will be christened Textiles Street during the festival, according to District Collector Sharmila Mary Joseph. While the main centre of the festival will be Kottayam town, other suburban towns including Changanassery, Pala, Vaikom, Ettumanur, Ponkunnam, Kanjirappally, Erattupetta and Karukachal have also been included in the programme. Registration of shops has already started, Ms. Joseph said.
