Flagstaff procession reaches Ettumanur

Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM: The teak to be used for the construction of a flagstaff at the Sri Mahadeva Temple was taken to Ettumanur on Sunday.

Devotees lined up on both sides of the road to witness the procession.

The tree, which was cut down after following the prescribed rituals on Friday, was taken on a trailer so that it would not touch the ground.

The 68-ft log was bedecked with flowers. The procession was flagged off by Fr. Mani Vellilamthadathil, the vicar of the local church at Kozhuvanal from where the tree was cut.

The procession took the Pallickathode, Kodungoor, Vazhoor, route to reach Kottayam - Kumily road and reached Ettumanur via Kottayam.

The teak log would be placed in special herbal-medicine concoctions for the next one year.

The festival for the ‘prathishta’ of the new flagstaff is scheduled to be held in January 2009.
