They must participate in the effort to improve living conditions of people CHENNAI: The time has come for the women in India to shoulder greater responsibilities concerning the affairs of the State, said R. Sudhakar, Judge, Madras High Court. Addressing a gathering of teachers and students to mark the Children’s Day celebration at D.A.V. Girls Senior Higher Secondary School here on Friday, Mr. Justice Sudhakar said women in India had made great strides in all walks of life and they must now participate in the effort to improve the living conditions of the people. Congratulating the achievements of the students of the school, the Judge said it proved that empowerment of women was a reality. The objective of the ‘Arya Samaj’ was to dispel ignorance and disseminate knowledge, he said, adding that it would make the world better by improving the physical, spiritual and social conditions of the mankind. As for education, he said it was a nation-building effort and added, “The greatest service one can do to society is imparting education, that too to the deserving children belonging to the socially and economically deprived strata of society.” While Mahalakshmi Sudhakar distributed prizes to meritorious students, school principal Lalitha Chandrasekaran welcomed the gathering.
