NEW DELHI: Academicians and representatives of the industry from across the world will be descending on the Capital to discuss and share knowledge and techniques in practicing and promoting Green Chemistry to meet the challenges of sustainability in these changing times. The three-day workshop that begins on January 7 is being organised by Green Chemistry Network Centre (GCNC) at Delhi University, Hindu College and The Energy and Resources Institute. The objectivesThe GCNC was established under the recommendation of a panel of world leaders headed by Paul Anastas, also known as the father of Green Chemistry, who is the director of American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute. The objective of GCNC is to strengthen the network between educators, industry and research organisations that are practicing Green Chemistry for broadening this concept, popularise its teaching and its experiments. “In recent times the relevance of Green Chemistry and its concepts have been acknowledged in most of developing nations including India. India is substantially industrialised and populated to produce a large volume of industrial waste and yet, relatively poorly equipped to manage this waste. The workshop will bring together leaders of Green Chemistry in order to get fruitful results in the current day perspective,” said R. K. Sharma, GCNC coordinator. Awards will be conferred to recognise efforts in the design and implementation of the technology.
