Traders plan dharna on Tuesday against sealing
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All India Traders will stage a “Vyapar Bachao Dharna” at Town Hall here on Tuesday to demand implementation of the Central Government Ordinance on sealing in unauthorised colonies.
Several traders and wholesalers who will benefit from the Ordinance will participate in the “dharna”. In a statement on Sunday, CAIT secretary Praveen Khandelwal said: “The Master Plan for Delhi-2021 has declared areas of Old Delhi, Sadar Bazar, Karol Bagh and Paharganj as ‘special areas’, therefore no conversion or parking charges should be sought from businessmen practicing their trade in these areas.” According to Mr. Khandelwal, several small shop owners were facing difficulty as de-sealing shops was taking too much time resulting in a financial loss to them.
Need to protect
“The distribution network of Delhi’s trade should be protected at any cost. All agencies concerned such as the MCD and the DDA should adopt a joint strategy to provide immediate relief to the shopkeepers,” he added.
