TIRUCHI: The police have taken a number of initiatives with a view to checking offences in the city limits, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) P. Moorthy said on Friday.
The cooperation of the public was equally essential for the police in prevention of crimes, he said while speaking at the Vigilance Awareness Week celebrated by the Indian Overseas Bank here.
Listing out some of the measures, Mr. Moorthy said the police had now installed surveillance cameras in Chathiram bus stand, along the NSB Road and along the Bharathidasan Salai besides Central bus stand.
Following spate of house break incidents in the city limits in the recent past, the beat constables, Sub Inspectors and Inspectors have been instructed to keep a watch on the locked houses.
The traffic police have been provided with digital cameras to take photographs of vehicles committing stop line violation. The challan was being sent to the houses of the violators.
Mr. Moorthy said awareness through education would go a long way in combating social evil such as corruption. Though efficiency was going up on the one side, social values was decreasing, he said. The IOB, Chief Regional Manager R. Chandran, Chief Managers T. J. Vijayakumar and N. Krishnamurthy participated.
