Guwahati: The militant National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) on Friday handed over a fawn rescued by its cadre to Forest Department officials of the Nameri National Park near Sotai forest village in Sonitpur district. NDFB cadre had rescued the lone fawn from the forests of Nameri and taken it with them to save it from predators. The fawn was barely three months old and would not have been able to fend for itself. The handing over was facilitated by he WWF North Bank Landscape (WWF-NBL) programme team and its NGO partner Socio-Economic Rural Development Organisation (SERDO) of Charduar. The NDFB contacted Bir Kumar Tamang of SERDO and expressed its eagerness to hand over the fawn to the Forest Department. Mr. Tamang then contacted the NBL team and it was arranged. Accordingly, a team of officials of the Nameri National Park and Charduar Range led by Bhadra Kakati and Nripen Kalita respectively, reached a designated point near Sotai forest village and met the NDFB representatives to take custody of the deer. It will be soon released in the forest. The NDFB, which has been fighting for a sovereign Boroland, is currently under a ceasefire agreement with the Centre. The Forest Department officials praised the NDFB for its support in protecting the wildlife.
