NEW DELHI: Jagwant Singh scored the match-winner as the IHF Under-21 team defeated Karnataka XI 2-1 in the 44th Nehru hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Sunday. Parmod Kumar put the IHF team ahead in the seventh minute but Anup Anthony equalised for Karnataka about 10 minutes later. Jagwant Singh struck a telling blow in the 35th minute of the first half and that proved decisive in the end. In another match, Punjab and Sind Bank outplayed North East XI (Assam) 8-2 to enter the super-league. Vikramjit Singh scored three goals while Sarvanjit Singh, Parminder Singh, Gurvinder Singh Chandi, Navpreet Singh and Kulwinder Singh scored a goal each. Barna Das Barla and Y. Helendro Singh fought hard for the Assam team. Border Security Force (BSF) scored a 3-0 victory over Western Railway. Amrit Lakra, Marianus Lakra and Sarabraj Singh scored the goals.
