YOUNG ACHIEVER: “The Little Teacher” director and producer, J. Afshan, with Samhita on Sunday. HYDERABAD: “I teach my grandmother and help her learn writing and reading,” smiles Baby Samhita. The star of ‘Chinnari Pantulamma’ (The Little Teacher), she was cynosure of all eyes at the 15th International Children’s Film Festival. In the 115 minute film, Baby Samhita finds herself against none other the legendary Anjali Devi and her role is that of a child who takes upon herself the task of educating the grandmother. The senior member of the family comes to stay with the child when her father goes abroad for a few months and that’s when the learning aspect gets initiated between two different generations. “I enjoyed the movie and working with such a big actress,” the Class III student says. The film is produced and directed by J. Afshan with a screenplay provided by Adapala. Rihla …. The JourneyA slow learner finding solace in music and becoming consummate violinist forms the backdrop for the 120 minute feature film ‘Rihla…The Journey’. Says the film director B. Ajit Nag, “the film is about how a mother through her child realises that she can outperform herself”. Each individual has an inherent talent and it is what the daughter, a slow learner facing humiliation from her peers in the school, proves in the end. “It is a journey of the woman and the film comes in a positive fashion,” explains the director who has several television commercials and corporate documentary films to his credit. Rihla… is his debut feature film. For the visually challenged children, the Children’s Film Society, India (CFSI) has made audio described films and the same will be screened on Monday. Nearly 200 children are expected to take part in the screening. As part of the children’s film festival, two workshops on web designing and computer gaming are commenced at the A.P. State Film Television & Theatre Development Corporation, A.C. Guards here today. During the workshop, experts are giving lecture demonstrations on web designing, an overview of animation and gaming. Ashok Kaul, the maker of award winning film ‘Param Vir Chakra’ along with Zia Rahman of Zensar Technologies are taking the classes.
