Harsh decision

The recent action taken by the Commercial Taxes Department (CTD) to freeze the accounts of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) for alleged non-payment of central sales tax (CST) is thoughtless and harsh. The VSP is a Central Government undertaking and its products are distributed across the country based on demand against Form-F which exempts the payment of CST on such despatches.

Instead of freezing the VSP accounts, the CTD could have taken up the matter with the Ministry of Steel.

Dangerous practice

Owing to use of sub-standard electrical switches for streetlights, an improvised/alternative way of hooking the wires has been in practice. And such hooks are left on the pole at a height of three to four feet.

Even a small boy can touch these wires and lose his life.

Recently, a buffalo died at pole No. 41/B/3 on the main road separating Lawson’s Bay Colony and MVP Colony. Similar wire hooks are found on pole No. 124/A6-DF126/B10 on the same road.

I wrote in vain to the GVMC on this.

Service at snail’s pace

The services of the Central Government Post and Telegraph Services are unsatisfactory. Clearance and delivery of letters are not done in a proper way.

We are receiving letters after inordinate delays and telephone bills, after due date.

I am a senior citizen and a cardiac patient. My sons are living in far off places. They are not able to receive communication sent by me by post.

Phone talk

Mobile phones, even while their utility is immense, are also found to be a cause for distraction. Employees and students wasting valuable time during working hours by engaging in phone talk and they as well as the managements are put to loss.

I suggest that some well-thought and appropriate measures be taken to regulate the widespread and unwarranted personal use of mobile phone during working hours.
