Nip it in the bud

Bhavani Island, one of the most famous tourist places in the city, has turned out to be a haven for history-sheeters and eve-teasers.

Some politicians in the city, apparently, support these people for their own vested interests. The Tourism Department seems to have ignored the problem. The police need to take a serious view of the problem and nip it in the bud.

Group rivalry

Group rivalry in the Congress seems to have reached a flash point with Vijayawada (East) MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna refusing to take back his resignation over his demand that the Government reclaim the land regularised in the name of his own party MLA from Kankipadu Devineni Rajasekhar.

Newspapers have reported that Radhakrishna’s camp was abuzz with support coming from Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari districts ever since he submitted his resignation. Caste polarisation is likely to flare up once again if the feud between the sitting MLAs is not addressed in time.

No initiative

The grounding of the proposed Information Technology Park at Gannavaram near the city is being delayed to lack of initiative from elected representatives.

As a part of its IT&C policy, the State Government has decided to encourage the new IT units outside the State capital. Though the works relating to the development of IT Park at Gannavaram were entrusted to Larsen & Toubro, nothing has started till last month. The elected representatives from this region need to prevail upon the Government to speed up the process.

Not on right track

The Durgamma Gudibaata organised at Sri Durga Malleswara Swamivarla Devasthanam atop Indrakeeladri here failed to serve its purpose of taking up the pending works due to lack of coordination between officials and Trust Board members.

Development works costing Rs. 30 crores are pending for the past several years. The works include widening of the ghat road, construction of Rajagopuram, gold plating and construction of a multi-storey complex. The whole exercise of Gudibaata appears to be a stage show by the officials and Trust Board members. The people are clueless why there is a need for a special programme to take up the developmental works. The Trust Board meets regularly, while it is the duty of the officials to implement the decisions. It’s mere wasteful expenditure of donations given by the devotees.

Poor maintenance

I travelled by Falaknuma Superfast Express from Guntur to Visakhapatnam recently. The three-tier sleeper coach in which I travelled had no facilities, including power.

The condition remained same when I returned by the same train from Visakhapatnam. Neither was there power nor water in the coach.

Most of the coaches allotted to the Southern part of the country are in obsolete condition and there is no adequate supervision as well.
