Guntur shines in Rural Sports meet

Officials asked to provide all possible encouragement to the players
GUNTUR: Guntur district boys and girls bagged four prizes in five categories at stake in the three-day 30th State Group-II Rural Sports Meet that concluded here on Sunday.
Guntur girls emerged champions in volleyball, while boys finished in the third place. Guntur boys were winners in the football competition and finished in the third place in the weight lifting also.
Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshmi Narayana at the valedictory giving away the trophies congratulated the winners and wanted them to improve their standard of game to compete with teams from other States so that they could bring laurels to Andhra Pradesh.
He asked officials to provide all possible encouragement to the players so that they could improve their level of game.District Collector Mohammed Ali Rafath and SAAP Regional Joint Deputy Director G. Chinnaiah were also present on the occasion.
Results: Volleyball (girls): Guntur, Krishna and Ananthapur finished in the top three places; Volleyball (boys): Chittoor, Vizianagaram, Guntur; Football: Guntur, Krishna and East Godavari; Weight Lifting (girls): Prakasam, Kurnool and East Godavari; Weight Lifting (boys): Kurnool, East Godavari and Guntur.
