Power theft by private firm found

MADURAI: The enforcement squad of Madurai Enforcement Circle, TNEB, detected a case of energy theft by a private company here during an inspection recently.
A statement issued here by Superintending Engineer of Madurai Electricity Distribution, S. Nagarajan, said that the theft was detected at Kallanai distribution, Alanganallur section of the distribution circle.
The theft was done by a cattle farm and bricks manufacturing unit, he said.
The pilferage resulted in the energy consumption of the consumer not getting recorded in the meter.
A provisional assessment of the loss sustained by the Board was made out to be Rs.1,17,854, which was recovered in full from the concern. The company itself came forward to compound the case in lieu of criminal proceedings and remitted Rs.12,000. Following which, no complaint was preferred by the Board.
