Boy dies after being hit by cracker

PERAMBALUR: A 14-year-old boy died of burns he sustained after being hit by a country cracker at Vilandhai near Andimadam town in the district in the late hours on Friday night.

Police identified the deceased as C. Sivakumar of Vilandhai.

The freak incident occurred when country crackers were being burst in connection with the ‘Thirukalyanam’ ritual in a Murugan temple in that village. Even while the crackers were being burst, one of the crackers hit the boy sitting in the stairs of a marriage hall close by.

The injured boy died on the way to the hospital. The Andimadam police have registered a case.
