Stolen cars recovered

Coimbatore: Two cars stolen by an inter-State criminal gang was recovered by the special teams of the Coimbatore City Police late on Thursday night.
Veeramuthu (38), working as a driver with the travel agency belonging to Kumar of R.S. Puram, was on his way in a maxi cab vehicle to pick up call centre employees in Sundarapuram area on Thursday evening. He was intercepted by a four-member gang that came in another maxi-cab vehicle near Kurichi.
The gang inflicted knife injury on the driver and abducted him along with his vehicle. After going some distance, the gang abandoned the driver and drove away the car. Based on a complaint, the City Police alerted the neighbouring districts and the inter-State routes were brought under vigil besides tightening the checks at border check-posts.
The gang first abandoned the car used by them at Thekkalur after the vehicle ran out of fuel. The car was later identified as a stolen vehicle from Bangalore. Subsequently, the car stolen from Veeramuthu was found abandoned at Kunnathur.
Both the cars were brought to Coimbatore. Special teams have fanned out to Karnataka in search of the gang.
Case registered
The Kattoor Police have registered a case against four persons from Tirunelveli and four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, based on the Madras High Court directions.
According to police, Senthilkumar, running a finance firm on Gandhipuram 4th street, lodged a complaint stating that an eight-member gang had abducted him to Tirunelveli over a financial dispute.
The complainant stated that the gang kept him in wrongful confinement at three police stations in Tirunelveli. After beating him up, the gang reportedly took away Rs. 5,000 cash besides taking away blank cheque leaves and signatures on white papers before releasing him.
Based on the court directions, the Kattoor police have registered a case against four persons, including Arumuga Nayinar, and four police personnel, including sub-inspector Somasundaram, on charges of abduction, robbery, wrongful confinement, extortion and criminal intimidation.
