Recruitment drive helps 287 students

Of the 4500 students registered with 13 leading companies, 182 were given job offer letters on the spot

TIRUPATI: The two-day Career Awareness and Recruitment Drive (CARD) conducted by Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) at Sri Venkateswara University campus helped 287 students tread the rosy path.

Of the 4500 students registered for the interactive programme with 13 leading companies, 182 were given job offer letters on the spot, while another 105 have been short-listed by the companies. In sharp contrast, the number of students benefited from last year’s CARD programme was a mere 16.

Announcing the results at a media conference here on Sunday, the APSCHE secretary M.D. Christopher said that after the successful conduct of the event in Andhra and Sri Venkateswara, it would be extended to the remaining universities soon. He noted that English laboratories were being opened in the degree colleges to facilitate enhanced focus on language skills and that 2000 faculty members had been equipped with the required skills to impart training to the students. Also, 180 lecturers of Government colleges had been provided special training.

Dr. Christopher announced that a Post Graduate Diploma course in Medical Transcription would be initially introduced in OU and AU, while a course in Financial Services would be extended to SVU and Kakatiya also, apart from the above two. SVU Vice-Chancellor S.Jayarama Reddy was also present.
