Ambulances to be equipped with life saving drugs Committees to monitor progress of the scheme BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Government is taking initiative to set up Comprehensive Response Units to provide quick medical aid to people in the event of an emergency and to prevent loss of life with funds obtained under National Rural Health Mission. The decision to set up the Comprehensive Response Units to provide quick medical aid was taken by the State Cabinet this weekend. Under this project, ambulance services would be expanded in a phased manner. To establish these units, an MoU with the Emergency Management and Research Institute, Hyderabad and land would be made available for a period of ten years for setting up the call centre to receive emergency calls to inform concerned agencies about road accidents, fire incidents, and other calamities The Cabinet has decided to constitute a State-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary and district level committees headed by the district collectors to monitor the progress of this scheme. The project aims to provide emergency medical aid with the help of ambulances equipped with life saving drugs, necessary equipment and trained staff. In the first phase, 400 ambulances would be acquired by March 2008 and their number would increase to 700 by March 2009. The ambulances would have trained drivers and emergency para-medical staff.
