JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Sunday called upon the Centre to forthwith release Rs. 3,284.22 crore sought by the State for relief and rehabilitation measures in the areas hit by massive floods last year. Ms. Raje, in a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, said the floods in 2006 had led to loss of life and destruction of property on an enormous scale. State’s demandThough the State made a demand for Rs. 2,409.70 crore for relief measures and Rs. 874.52 crore for reconstruction of damaged assets, the Centre has not released funds in either head so far. Ms. Raje pointed out that the State Government had sent its request for funds for reconstruction of infrastructure to the National Calamities Management Authority in June this year, but was still waiting for its response. She said the people in the flood-affected areas were still facing difficulties. The Chief Minister also drew Mr. Patil’s attention to certain anomalies in the disbursal of foodgrain as part-payment of wages to labourers engaged for relief works, while affirming that the State Governments concerned should be empowered to fix the prices of foodgrain.
