PALAKKAD: Chairman of the National Wage Board for Working Journalists and Newspaper Employees Justice K. Narayana Kurup said here on Sunday that the board’s recommendations would be submitted before its three-year term to the Central government. Talking to journalists, he said the demand of the Indian Journalists Union, for interim relief, could not be decided by the board alone. It had to be taken up with the government. The Centre had to give direction to the board in this regard. In fact, journalists should take up the matter with the Union government, he added. Mr. Justice Narayana Kurup was here to inaugurate a seminar on “Judiciary and the Freedom of the Press,” organised jointly by the Kerala Journalists Union and Exclusive Weekly. The keynote address was delivered by K. Suresh Kumar, Managing Director of Kerala State Agriculture Development Bank. The meeting was presided over by KJU working president G. Prabhakaran. It was also addressed by secretary-general of Janata Dal (S) K. Krishnankutty; John John, secretary, Kerala Janata Party; Jagadeesh Babu, general secretary, KJU; and K. Sugathan, Executive Editor, Exclusive Weekly. Mr. Justice Narayana Kurup also inaugurated a ‘Citizens Hub.’ Hub Secretary O. Manu Bhara presided over the function.
