NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Janata Party on Sunday announced its first list of 75 candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections. The list was finalised for 74 of the 87 seats to be contested in the first phase. The last date for filing nominations for the first phase is November 23.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will contest from Maninagar constituency in Ahmedabad in the second phase of polls.

Of the 74 candidates, while 57 were sitting MLAs, about 20 new faces were also announced.

Speaking to mediapersons, party President Rajnath Singh said an internal survey had indicated anti-incumbency factor against those 20 MLAs who were dropped.

The names were finalised late on Sunday night by the Central Election Committee.
