Vidya scores fourth win

CHENNAI: India’s Vidya Pillai posted her fourth straight victory in Group ‘D’ in the ladies section of the World snooker championship in Korat, Thailand on Sunday, with a 3-1 (59-26, 57-64, 45-29, 57-15) victory over Rona Bareket of Israel. Playing in Group ‘B’, the National champion Alok Kumar posted victories over Tae Hoon Jung (Korea) 4-0 (83-1, 69-16, 76-10, 99-9) and Jack Kung of USA 4-0 (84-15, 69-51, 64-20, 138-8) to finish second in his group.

Yasin Merchant edged out Mutalieb Allie of South Africa 4-3 (70-60, 12-76, 77-29, 27-74, 61-13, 24-74, 81-31) and has emerged third in Group ‘H’. Manan Chandra defeated Thepchaiya Un-nooh (Thailand) 4-2 (39-66, 65-45, 61-60, 82-40, 0-92, 93-0) and maintained his second place in Group ‘G’. In the Masters category, Geet Sethi overcame Thailand’s S. Worawit 3-2 (62-49, 0-79, 62-2, 9-65, 66-19). However, Anuja Chandra lost to Reanne Evans (England) 3-0 (80-78, 69-24, 62-15) in the ladies event.
