The Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode, has come out with a research journal. Something not too many colleges in the State have attempted. “We are planning to bring out two issues every year,” says P.J. Vincent, who edited the journal. “The response to the inaugural issue is encouraging. I sent a copy to historian and academician Dr. K.N. Panikkar and he said it was a very good attempt.” Mr. Vincent, who is a lecturer with the Department of History at the College, says the main purpose of the journal is to give an opportunity for the lecturers of the college to make their research findings available to a wider audience. “There are 19 teachers with doctorates in our college and most others have M.Phil degrees, but there are no windows to publish their research articles,” he says. In the inaugural issue, there are 14 articles. Four are in Hindi. “The college has a research centre for Hindi, and five departments have PG courses; we would encourage the students to contribute, they could submit their dissertations,” says Mr. Vincent. The inaugural issue has contributions from M. Abdurahiman, J. Prasad, M. Jothiraj, V. Jyothirmani, P.J. Vincent, Alphonsa Xavier, A. Rajan Nambiar, S. Jayasree, Johny Joseph, J. Ambika Devi, Pavoor Sasheendran, N. Girija, M.K. Ajithakumari and V.K. Subramanyan. P.K. Ajith Kumar
