‘Government committed to quality health-care facilities’

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government is committed to providing a health-care infrastructure that is of international quality, Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy has said.

She was inaugurating a seminar on quality assurance in medical laboratories, organised by the Quality Council of India, here on Monday, a press note said. The seminar was organised as part of the council’s awareness campaign for strict implementation of quality norms in the State’s medical laboratories.

The government’s aims would be fulfilled only if it, the people and various regulatory authorities undertook joint efforts for the same, she said.

In his address, Girdhar J. Gyani, secretary general of the council, said only a few medical laboratories in India had the necessary accreditation. A majority of such laboratories did not follow quality control norms. The situation posed a danger to public safety.
