Panaji: The Union Government has accepted the report of the committee of experts constituted under the chairmanship of M.S. Swaminathan to review the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification, 1991. Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest Namo Narain Meena informed Shantaram Naik, MP, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The Minister informed Mr. Naik that the report of the committee had suggested certain modifications in the CRZ notification for effective management of coastal areas. The Minister said that no representation had been received from the Goa Government supporting or opposing any change in the CRZ and relevant notification/rules. However, Mr. Meena admitted that a representation had been received from The Goa Foundation, a Goa-based non-governmental organisation, expressing apprehension that the CRZ Notification, 1991, may be diluted.
