Training in governance for women councillors
Special Correspondent
VILLUPURAM: The Social Welfare Board will impart training on governance among the elected women representatives of the local bodies in January 2008, according to Salma, Chairperson of the Board.
Ms. Salma told presspersons here on Monday that it had been found that on administrative matters the women panchayat presidents, councillors and ward members were dependent on their husbands.
Training would be organised to enable women representatives to take independent decisions. She further said a proposal had been sent to the government to impart vocational training among the transgenders to equip them to start self-help ventures. The board had received Rs 9 crore from the Centre this year for running orphanages, family counselling centres, short-term educational courses and so on.
