CHENNAI: An awareness project with a difference ‘Give Way to Ambulance’ was organised by the Rotary Club of Madras Perungudi here on Saturday.

The programme was conducted to create awareness among the motorists the need to give way for an ambulance even when it is empty. Around 150 school students and 50 college students, sporting white t-shirts and blue caps, participated in the campaign along with the Rotary Club members.

The students pasted ‘I give way to ambulance - how about you?’ stickers on the bumpers of vehicles and presented motorists with cell phone holders and pamphlets with the objective of spreading the message to at least 5,000 motorists around Chennai.

“Every minute is valuable for a critically-ill patient and we can ensure a better chance for them if the ambulance reaches them [to hospital] on time. This is where we require the co-operation of the motorists and hence the campaign,” said the club president N. Venkatesan.

“It gives us great pleasure to serve society and bring awareness about such an important cause. I hope we can spread the message to more students and motorists,” said Vivek, a student of Sri Sankara School, Tiruvanmiyur.
