Coimbatore
Coimbatore: The Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner (ROTC) here would soon get additional facilities for training as part of the renovation works planned for the office. According to D. Badyopadhyay, deputy director in-charge here, the office would soon be shifted to the Chinthamani premises. It would be renovated and additional facilities would be established at a cost of nearly Rs. 1 crore. Multi-media kits, conference room and computerisation are some of the works proposed. Since Coimbatore is one of the major textile centres in the country, the office here would start training new workers and offer programmes for those already employed in the textile units. A large number of workers come from other States to work in these units and the new facility would even provide Tamil classes. It will also get testing facilities for fibre, yarn and fabric. The works would take off once the office is shifted to the new premises, he said. Another official added that the industry faced several gaps in human resource development. These facilities at the regional offices would help address the needs of the industry. These would be especially for those in the supervisory and management levels.
