Show-cause notice to JK police in Nazia case

Correspondent

CUTTACK: The Orissa High Court on Monday issued show-cause notice to Budgam police in Jammu and Kashmir in the Nazia Banu case when the Orissa Government washed its hands of the contentious issue. Following the stand taken by the State Government that it had no role in the arrest of the Kashmiri woman and Oriya migrant worker Digambar Bisoi, the HC issued notice to the JK police and adjourned the case to be heard on November 28.

Justice Indrajit Mohanty adjudicating over the case wanted to know the details of the offence committed by the duo, Government Counsel told the court that the Bhubaneswar police only assisted the JK police in execution of an NBW issued by a JK court and identified the IO of the case in Bhubaneswar SDJM court. Nazia Banu alias Shehenaz, a 28-year-old Muslim woman and mother of four children had fled her husband’s home in Kashmir and landed in Orissa on October 16 with the help of Bisoi.

Banu is now refusing to go back to her native place charging her husband Md Yusuf with torturing her.
