Sambalpur: Illegal hemp cultivation was unearthed by a joint team of police, excise, forest and revenue officials at Nakatideula area in Sambalpur district, 115 km from here, on Monday. Official sources said that hemp cultivation had been going on at Kudanali, Talanali, Lupuri, Koing and Sankarpur villages under Rairkhol sub-division of this district inside a jungle surrounded by mountains. Acting on the tip-off, the joint team trekked ghat and jungle roads to reach the spot. “We found vast areas dotted with hemp cultivation on the bank of Karandi river”, said an official. Hemp worth about Rs. 2 crores was set on fire, the official said. PTI
