Fun ‘mela’ for teachers, parents and students

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A day of uninhibited fun and entertainment for all was the theme of ‘Fun-Mela 2007-08,’ organised by The Ashram Group of Institutions in the city on Sunday.

The Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam was abuzz with chatter, loud music and the smell of goodies along with a myriad other activities going on in every corner. Teachers and parents running around, little children screaming out their favourite songs into a microphone and slightly older children dancing to the tune of the latest Tamil film hits. Towards afternoon, the chaos seemed to reach fever pitch. Just outside the building, other children were enjoying the fun rides on the painted horses of a merry-go-round and a not-so-giant kiddies wheel. The chief coordinator of the Ashram, Kalyani Muralidharan, said that the event was being organised every year so that parents, teachers and students had a chance to come together and to have fun. “We have also organised various events and competitions, including singing, dancing, quiz and fancy dress parade. The idea is, whatever talent the child may posses, he or she should be able to display it at the mela. Students from UKG to Standard XII are participating in the various events,” she said.
