NCC cadets to help Delhi traffic police during rush hour

NEW DELHI: At least 1,000 cadets of the National Cadet Corps will help the Delhi traffic police in managing traffic in the Capital during the rush hour as part of “Traffic Safety Week” launched here on Monday with a motorcycle and scooter rally by NCC cadets.

Flagging off the rally from her residence in the presence of NCC Director-General Lieutenant-General Prakash S. Chaudhary and other senior officials, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the NCC cadets as well as other children could be very helpful in spreading the message of safe driving. She pointed out that children had been instrumental in spreading the green cover in the Capital.

Stating that her Government was concerned about the safety and security of pedestrians, the Chief Minister said a little precaution on the part of pedestrians as well as motorists could avoid a large number of accidents.

Ms. Dikshit said the Government had already launched a “Walk safely, drive safely” scheme through the electronic and print media.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that induction of 1,000 top quality buses and participation of corporates in running the public transport system would ease the traffic situation in the Capital and help curb accidents. During the Traffic Safety Week, the NCC cadets will also educate motorists and pedestrians about various traffic rules and regulations at 16 points in the Capital. These include Rajiv Chowk, Gurgaon to Dhaula Kuan Road, Rao Tula Ram Marg, Moti Bagh Chowk, Gyarah Murti, South Extension Ring Road, Rajpath, Mathura Road, Tilak Marg, ITO, Raj Ghat, I.P. College, Ashram Chowk, Sena Bhavan and Lodhi Road.
