VS should apologise to court: Chennithala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said here on Monday that Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan’s comment against the judge considering the case on palm oil imports and the High Court were irresponsible and against the interests of the State. “He should withdraw his controversial statement and apologise to the court,” Mr. Chennithala said.

The KPCC president said that the Chief Minister’s statement should be viewed as part of a strategy to win cases by provoking the courts. That would not be in the best interest of the State.

The court had remarked that the Chief Minister’s statements were not befitting his position. By forcing the judge to transfer the case to a Division Bench, Mr. Achuthanandan had caused delays in the proceedings. This would cause more hardships to farmers. Mr. Chennithala said that the government had started a campaign belittling the courts soon after it came to power.
