Hope-2000 to construct 50 toilet blocks, provide potable water To provide library, suitable sports equipment to school children NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi in collaboration with a Delhi-based private trust has decided to sponsor construction of toilet blocks and potable water in its primary schools. The civic body will launch the scheme in collaboration with the charitable trust “Hope-2000”. A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed between the two parties on Monday. As part of the sponsorship programme, Hope-2000 will construct 50 toilet blocks and ensure provision of potable water in them. An MCD spokesperson said on Monday that the increase in population and number of developed and regularised colonies had resulted in a several-fold increase in the civic body’s responsibilities to provide various civic amenities and primary education to school children. “There is a need for organisations like corporate bodies, non-government organisations, residents’ welfare associations, private trusts and community-based agencies to contribute actively to the education sector. This will enable us to bring about the desired improvement in primary education facilities and also provide them with a sound and healthy environment to study,” said the spokesman. As part of the collaborative scheme, the following provisions are set to take place: Arrangement of potable water in schools, repair and maintenance of water pipelines in the school premises, sufficient number of toilets for boys and girls and their repair and maintenance, to provide regular supply of Delhi Jal Board water in schools, oversee periodic cleaning of septic tanks and sewer lines and develop and maintain playgrounds and parks in schools The joint effort will also aim at providing a well-equipped library and suitable sports equipment to the school children. However, the contribution of private trusts notwithstanding, control over properties and public land would remain completely with the MCD.
