Oath-taking: advocate moves High Court

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A Bangalore-based advocate has filed a public interest litigation petition before the Karnataka High Court against the practice of politicians taking oath of office in front of Vidhana Soudha. He said that on November 12, 2007, B.S. Yeddyurappa of the Bharatiya Janata Party had taken oath as Chief Minister. This ceremony was conducted in front of Vidhana Soudha. The function, he said, spilled over to the Ambedkar Veedhi Road and the publicwere inconvenienced. The ceremony led to traffic hold up and advocates could not attend cases. The Government did not care to prevent the hardship of the common man, he said. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Ashok B. Hinchigeri, on Monday, adjourned further hearing on the petition and orally asked the Government advocate to ascertain why such functions were held before the Vidhana Soudha.
