Teachers demand higher wages
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Members of the Karnataka State High School Assistant Master’s Association have urged the State Government to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission at the earliest.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Association General Secretary K.C. Puttasidda Shetty said though the previous government had promised teachers a pay scale in the range of Rs. 10,800 to Rs. 20,025, it is yet to be fulfilled. “B.S. Yediyurappa, who was the Deputy Chief Minister then, had promised this to us. We request him to implement this at the earliest,” he said. The retirement age of teachers should be increased to 62 years and the existing pension policy should not be changed, Mr. Puttasidda Shetty said. He added that if the Government does not consider these demands, the teachers would launch an intensified stir.
