Walavalkar triumphs

KOLHAPUR: Three-time National karting champion Ameya Walavalkar (Mumbai), representing Mohite’s Racing, emerged overall winner in the third round of the MRF-MAI Senior Indian National Karting Championships, held at Mohite’s Racing, Kolhapur on Sunday.

Walavalkar, 26, winner of the second round at Coimbatore, sped to victory in his World Formula 14 hp karts, completing the 21-lap first race in 16.31.377, ahead of Rayomand Banajee (Speed Rayo Racing) and teammate Rounak Patil.

He maintained the momentum in the second race over 28 laps to take the winner’s flag in 22.23.976, followed by Rounak and Banajee in that order.

“I’m leading for the first time this season. I hope to keep the lead going into the Goa round,” said Walawalkar.

The Mohite’s Racing driver leads standings with 116 points from four wins and a third place finish, Mumbai’s Speed Rayo Racing’s Banajee is 24 points behind with 92 points. Rounak of Mohite’s Racing is third with 89 points.

Team Mohite’s Racing now head the team championship standings, followed by Speed Rayo Racing and Team Avalanche.
