Alok advances

CHENNAI: National champion Alok Kumar and Yasin Merchant continued to march ahead but Manan Chandra suffered a reverse in the Group stage league in the World snooker championship being held in Korat, Thailand.

Alok had a tough task on hand, facing the unbeaten Thai player Passakorn Suwannawat in Group B on Monday. But the Indian known for his calm and calculated approach, defeated his opponent 4-3 in a close tussle. The Indian won 62-6, 22-75, 6-91, 54-22, 0-132, 61-41, 81-36.

Earlier, Yasin trounced Khalil Hossein of Mauritius 4-0 in Group H. Yasin won 73-28, 46-18, 120-1, 53-32.

However Manan who had two good days slipped when he went down 1-4 to Keith E. Boon Aun of Singapore, on Monday.

The Singapore player won 59-51, 25-69, 93-11, 67-54, 65-31.
